Richmond, Virginia is a popular place to live. Once you arrive you will most likely hear locals refer to it as RVA. The state’s Capital is known for having excellent locally owned restaurants and for its short drives around town. Typically you’re only about fifteen to twenty minutes from wherever your destination may be. Richmond is a convenient two hour drive or about 110 miles to Virginia Beach. It’s also only about 112 miles to Washington, D.C. If you are lucky, you can get their in two hours but with the heavy traffic on 95 North, it will probably take you longer!

Universities & Colleges

If you plan on researching colleges in Virginia, you should know that Richmond is centrally located to some of the most popular colleges and universities in the state.

A couple of the colleges and universities that are less than one hour away are University of Virginia and The College of William & Mary. UVA is located in Charlottesville and William & Mary is located in Williamsburg.

Richmond is home to University of RichmondVirginia Commonwealth University and Randolph Macon College. University of Richmond is situated right here in Richmond in one of the most sought after areas in Richmond. Virginia Commonwealth University is located in the City of Richmond and Randolph Macon College is located in Ashland, Virginia which is part of Hanover County.

James Madison University is about two hours past the Afton Mountains in Harrisonburg. You just hope on 64 West to 81 North. Virginia Tech is just over three hours away in Blacksburg.

Housing

When moving to Richmond/RVA, newcomers have several options to choose from like most progressive cities. However, there are three main differences.
